news

saturday 18th august 07

i know, i know, i am a lazy bastard. we have secured another prestigious gig supporting the mighty fairport convention and jolly proud of it we are too.

joel and andy have been beavering away with our recordings and we should have a new cd out by the beginning of october. it will be an ep containing six tracks and will be called 'backward'. after that we have eleven new tracks recorded last november which with a bit of luck, a following wind and the intervention of the god of technology, might be ready early in the new year.

saturday 24th february 07

got a gig booked for 24th march at the iguana so i'll see you all there hopefully.

the cd is coming along quite nicely. we have two seperate sessions of studio material to put the final touches to. we began round at andy's a couple of weeks ago and we have finished 'bistro' and 'idiot for a living'. there are a total of 17 tracks that we could potentially use. we hope to have some lap steel and keyboard additions soon also. will let you know when we have it ready to sell.

above: adam, the japing crackpot that he is, larks about as andy sets about the serious business of trying to make his guitar sound like it's not being strummed by an epileptic seal with a wounded flipper.

for those about to rock - phil recommends the parker knoll 3000 recliner, actually built in 2006 but as we see here, cunningly disguised to look like something either andy or john might have found in a back alley in the mid 70's.

jacket by age concern £0.75, trousers by rspca, hair by 'short kutz' of burnage, scowl by default.

friday 19th january 2007, bakers vault, stockport

?

wednesday 13th december 2006

paul's arse will need to be shown. see below (6th december)

wednesday 6th december 2006 the barley corn, barlow moor road, didsbury

a superb night at the corn featuring the stunning sight of paul feely, arms aloft, leading the claps to bistro. superb work from andy on the sound armed only with a duster and a couple of stools, and if we don't get a repeat gig then i'll show paul's arse on the town hall steps. thanks to nina for the pics

saturday 18th november 2006 the puzzle hall inn, sowerby bridge

wow, what a reception. really enjoyed the night at one of the best venues in the north of england

tuesday 14th november 2006

went into a studio on saturday and managed to record live for the first time. massive thanks to rob who set everything up so that we could play live. we're hoping to get an album out of it. we got through about 11 tracks all together and still have six tracks unmixed from our recordings done last year. we have not discussed the album title yet, but my preferred option has to be;

"they felt like my trousers when i put them on, but having discovered this in the front-left pocket it has rather changed my mind"

wednesday 25th october 2006, the lounge bar, wilbraham road, chorlton.

very warm reception, kitchens ambient, main dining area a little draughty. apparently i swore at people watching and became quite offensive. i'm not sure why i feel the need to be rude to people when they are bothering to watch us play music - hey-ho!

wednesday 27th september 2006, the revise bar, wilbraham road, chorlton.

the welcome return of full live bands at the revise bar. thanks to pete for the photo's. due to reasons totally within our control there are no photos of slowhand.

the butcher, as you've never seen him before..........at the bar, getting a round in

during soundcheck mike ponders the possibility that adam has been planing the back of his guitar neck again

the final touches are put to the second set - the drama is palpable

the final rousing moments of the gig see mike's feet (almost) ablur as he is unable to control his enthusiasm any longer

the butcher sets an official world record for the outfit with the highest contrast

p and mike, in a totally unprovoked and unprofessional moment, attempt to slip into another dimension, in the vain hope that they might a) be able to transcend the dualities of life, or b) catch the last ten minutes of the united match at the royal oak.

saturday 9th september 2006, the iguana bar, manchester road, chorlton.

great night at the iguana. big turn-out. very weird reception from a crowd who failed to spot that there was a band on for the first half of the set and then wouldn't let us get off unless we did an encore at the end of the set. great support from peter haley as usual.

saturday 12th august 2006

yet another large multinational attempts to cash in on fishonastick's growing fame. when will they ever learn?

here a woman uses the multi-functional fishonastick lashwand using our good name to earn herself much needed cred points and cultural cache - cheeky bugger! thanks to matt for the uncovering this one.

here (below) we see the man (matt) himself in a spot of shameless self-publicising the likes of which we would never indulge in............. or be offered the chance of.

friday 21st july 2006 the bakers vault, the market place, stockport, manchester

good night at the vault including one of paul's now famous onenistic drum solo's. wood everywhere!

sunday 2nd july 2006 party in the park 1.30pm, didsbury park, free entry

excellent gig in the park and many thanks to wayne for standing in at short notice and doing a powerfully good job.

 thursday 22nd june.

just put six new songs on the work in progress bit. don't download these unless you are in the band! they're new and rough but they're gonna be awesome honest!

 thursday 22nd june.

just rehearsed with wayne in prep for the didsbury park gig. sounds good and we'll have a good set. "you must have enough" sounds awesome!!

saturday 3rd june at the puzzle hall in sowerby bridge, west yorkshire

great gig and great pub and great punters. very enjoyable place to play and we went down rather well. thanks to pete for giving us the gig and for inviting us to play at their festival in august. watch this space for more details.

saturday 27th may 2006 the fletcher christian, 55 main street, cockermouth, cumbria

enjoyed the gig, but thought we might get lynched at one point. seemed to win them round in the end. thanks to alan for getting us the gig.

sunday 21st may 2006 chorlton arts festival

the lloyds tavern, wilbraham road, chorlton. part of the ever growing music and dance festival in machester's trendy chorlton,

supported by the the wisemen in a return gig (hopefully)

saturday 20th may 2006 hark to towler 43 market street, tottington, two miles north of bury

one set supporting a really top led-zep tribute band, led balloon. we went down really well and it was an excellent sound from the landlord john. led balloon were really top blokes and we're sorry we couldn't stay to see what sounded like an excellent band in the soundcheck.

saturday 13th may 2006 iguana bar, manchester road, chorlton

two sets at our home from home. many thanks to pascal for rearranging this gig 27 times (nearly). really top support from the frat pack and ricky's band, both of which i saw for the first time and was well impressed with.

saturday 29th april 2006 the cavern, liverpool, smiths convention

well, they pulled the money, people walked out demanding their money back and there was no food or drink as promised. worst gig i've ever done and definitely the worst organised. we did the gig so we can say we've played the cavern, otherwise .........bollocks

friday 21st april 2006 the bakers vault, the market place, stockport, manchester

two sets of forty minutes each, free to get in and a late bar. music will begin around 9.30pm

saturday 18th february 2006, paul's dad's birthday bash

bloody hell what a night! it was a private do for our paul's dad's birthday,  we learned a little known paul simon song called 'hearts and bones' and enjoyed it so much that we're thinking of putting it in the set. the important thing is that anthony (paul's dad) seemed to enjoy it.

friday february 10th

until the age of 16 i lived within view of this building (peel tower near ramsbottom) and it makes me feel all warm whenever i see it. now you can see it too.

do you feel all warm too?

saturday 4th february 2006, at the hotel califoria, birkenhead

top tribute band definitely might be (great name) gave us some useful advice about which instruments to play and chunky the sound engineer gave me some good advice about vocal technique. unfortunately as this was all after the gig we went down like a wart in a salad. ho-hum.

friday 27th january 2006 bury met supporting the fabulous strawbs

supported a superb acoustic strawbs set, a fantastic night at the bury met, great time had by all and the strawbs were great we sold 30 cd's and were even asked to sign some. for some reason i put 'take care' above each signature, as if to forewarn any cd purchaser of the impending musical doom that lay before them. thanks again to dave from the met for giving us the opportunity

wednesday 25th january 2006 the lounge bar, wilbraham road, chorlton

three acts on, fishonastick on last doors open 8pm-12am, thanks to everyone who came down. really good feedback and well done to tony for wearing his t-shirt with pride

sunday 11th december moses gate, farnworth, near bolton

top venue, great sound system. we met some nice blokes from a band called aura 4, and we enjoyed the gig immensely, we may possibly have a support with them at the thatched house in stockport on january 6th.

sunday 4th december 2005 the limelight club, hightown, crewe, cheshire

gig cancelled due to a car accident, all the bast to the bassist from the clashed

thursday 1st december 2005 the two tubs, 19 the wylde, bury

two sets of about forty minutes starting at around 8pm, only the tubs' second band night since they got their new license for live music. thanks to stuart for giving us the gig. it was quiet but we enjoyed ourselves.

thursday 17th november 2005 fairport convention support

what a fantastic night we had. thanks must go to pete who, at his own expense and time, filmed us and managed to polish the proverbial turd without any more help than the ever faithful and knowledgeable andy (many thanks due here also). thanks also to nick from the south manchester reporter and sorry about having to go in the back of the van and fall asleep on all our equipment. thanks to terry from molly bloom for mixing us a proper sound against the odds of a rather unhelpful room. thanks to nathan for letting us do the full set and sorting out our merchandising stall with no help from us at all. thanks to my mum and roy cos they're family and they were rather complimentary and finally thanks to the mighty fairport convention for letting us support them and taking the trouble (like proper nice blokes) to come into our dressing room and compliment us on our set, when they probably had much more important things to be doing. their set was (not surprisingly) superb.

post gig dressing room   on stage

paul giveth it some and verily the drums stayed hit, praise be.

the butcher, displays his musical meat to the crowd

the only known picture of adam where you can see his hands (usually ablur)

saturday 5th november 2005 iguana bar, chorlton, manchester

live at the iguana bar, chorlton. a storming gig, slightly marred by the fact that phil crashed his car on the way to the gig. he was unharmed and it wsn't his fault, but he was wearing a slightly bewildered look all evening. a couple of people mentioned that his bass playing was very good so from now on we all know what kind of preparation is best for phil before a gig. next thursday is the fairport convention support. we're sending phil up there in  a welded together ford astra; you never know your luck?

friday 30th september 2005

just put our music on a new website called my place. there's loads of other musicians on it and their music is free. click here to have yourself a shufty.

sunday 18th september 2005

their approval depending, we have just heard that we will be supporting the mighty fairport convention on november 17th at radcliffe civic suite, part of the bury met arts centre. for more info take a look at the gigs page

wednesday 14th september 2005

saturday 10th september 2005

live at the iguana bar, manchester road, chorlton (opposite chorlton baths) music begins at 9pm. plus support from peter haley and ricky

sunday 21st august 2005

sadly, the powers that be have deemed us unworthy of a set at the forthcoming in the city event. hopefully we'll get some opportunities around some of the fringe gigs.

wednesday 3rd august 2005

stop press meg was born today 3rd August, weighing 3.2kg mother and child are doing well; father is still a useless arse unfortunately.

monday 1st august 2005

we're taking a break in august as adam and his wife anna are having a child and that is more important than poncing about with a load of guitars by a fair stretch.

saturday 30th july 2005

radcliffe festival, supporting the animals,  at the piazza in the precinct centre of radcliffe.

a gorgeous time was had by all. a good response from the good natured locals and sold quite a few cd's. thanks to dave for booking us, to jen and james for supporting us and to ros for saying we were ace and offering us the chance of getting a gig at the shetland folk festival hopefully, and for showing us the soles of her feet.

wednesday 20th july 2005

lounge bar, wilbraham rd, chorlton on stage around 945pm, with jonny spitfire and colin wakeford.

well johnny spitfire couldn't make it but we saw an excellent band called 'gordo' in their place, it was a good night and the atmosphere at the lounge just gets better and better.

saturday 16th july 2005

bury festival, market street, bury; on stage 4.30pm for 45 minute set. back in my home town. the response to our stuff was warm yet not exactly enthusiastic. special thanks must go to the really ratted bloke who danced all the way and the other really ratted bloke who came up afterwards to offer the immortal but encouraging words "not being funny mate but your band is f***ing s**t". i wonder which part of that he believed i may have thought was funny?

    live at bury festival 16/07/05

saturday 2nd july 2005

iguana bar, manchester rd, chorlton

much appreciation (the lifeblood of any performer, and anyone who says they are indifferent to it is a liar). special thanks to matt for bringing some mates down, for holloring, and for the jethro tull comparison (i think).

         live at iguana 02/07/05

friday 10th june 2005

the baker's vault, market place, stockport, full band, on stage around 9.30pm.

saturday 14th may 2005
